If you have been following these articles for a while, you may have noticed that, in recent months, I have found it challenging to produce an article every week.
There are two driving values that I am striving to balance.
On the one hand, I know that some readers look forward to Tuesday morning, when the RSS feed delivers the article to your email inbox. The discussions of God’s truth are an important part of your walk with Him. So, I feel a responsibility to dependably post on a regular basis.
On the other hand, I want to be absolutely faithful in my handling of the topics and the Scriptures, and to present the discussion in a carefully developed, well-written manner that is actually useful in helping you know God better.
For a while, I tried gutting it out, cramming in as much time as it took to get the job done each week. But at 50+ years of age, that is not a sustainable plan, for multiple reasons.
So, I want to try a different strategy. On those weeks where I don’t feel the article is ready, I want to try posting a question that anticipates the next article. Along with it, I will include some relevant passages to inform your thoughts about that issue.
I hope that this will keep the discussion moving along each week, and enhance the value of it.
So, here’s this week’s question –
Should “saving for future needs” be included as one of the items on God’s agenda for how we are to use the possessions He entrusts to us?
Passages that are often used to support such a notion include –
- Proverbs 6:6-8; 10:5; 13:11, 18a, 22; 21:20
Are there other passages that should be included with these?
What about passages to the contrary?
- Matthew 6:19-20; Proverbs 23:4; Matthew 19:21; Luke 12:21, 33; 18:22; 1Timothy 6:9, 10; Hebrew 13:5; James 5:2
Any other important passages to include here?
